Let’s preface this – you do not have to swaddle your baby if you don’t want to. I was always under the impression that I had to swaddle my son, or else he would be cold and wouldn’t sleep. There are so many products and opinions out there, so I always try to educate my clients to the best of my knowledge, expertise, and experience when it comes to swaddling.
2-1 Nap Transitions
This one can be tough! Is my baby ready to drop their naps to only one nap? How can I manage the day with only one nap? This doesn’t fit with my daily routine/schedule. These are all great questions and yes, its another sleep “milestone” your child will go through. So how do you know if your child is truly ready to make the transition? Developmentally speaking, if they aren’t ready, it won’t be an easy transition and you may want to wait until they are showing signs of readiness.
Correcting Day and Nighttime Confusion for Newborns
It is very common for newborns to continue to be very sleepy during the day and stay up during the night. Newborns do not produce enough melatonin at this age to help differentiate and fall asleep when it is dark or nighttime. I typically see day and nighttime confusion last for a few weeks, upwards to a couple months.

When I was a new mom, I for sure thought 7 am was too early to wake up and always found myself trying to extend my sons mornings. The bad news for us as parents, younger children wake up somewhere between 6-7am and this is quite normal brain and development wise.
